Look at the Size of that EGO

I was having a discussion with my amazing husband this morning about the work I am doing on myself to change my subconscious mind and find a better internal balance of my emotions. I never realized how hard it is to explain this concept to someone if they aren’t on the same journey as you are. First I was trying to explain EGO…what it is, what it’s purpose is and why I don’t want to live in ego anymore.

There are several ways we look at ego in our society. Mainly we see the pompus jack ass and say….”wow look at the size of his ego!” But do we ever sit down and consider what ego is…..do we all have one or is it just the arrogant that have egos?

Websters dictionary wasn’t much help in the definition of ego…it states that ego is “the self especially as contrasted with another self or the world”….what??? I guess that means ego is living a life of comparisson with others. The other definition Websters dictionary gave was filled with even more pompus words…..the EGO of that dictionary! The second definition was “the one of the three divisions of the psyche in psychoanalytic theory that serves as the organized conscious mediator between the person and reality especially by functioning both in the perception of and adaptation to reality”.

In plain English, I would say that ego is the conscious part of our brain that most people use to relate to their reality or world around them. Ego is almost completely an external experience of life. I have an amazing teacher I am working with and he always relates it to the stained glass window with which we view the world. The reason he says stained glass window is because we project our beliefs onto the window and view our own distorted vision of reality. Ego is the way we teach ourselves life lessons….often times we teach ourselves these lessons in the hardest way possible. The craziest thing about ego is that we ask it to teach us these lessons.

The Deepak Chopra quote above is a much better definition than that of Websters dictionary. To sum it up, the ego is not the real version of ourselves. It is a distortion caused by our societal norms, mind lies, limiting beliefs or ways we look for recognition from others. It is totally based on external measures that can never be defined or achieved. Better stated, ego thrives and lives off fear and insecurity. Ego is what keeps us “safe” in the box just like everyone else.

When we start to put our higher selves in control and make ego take a back seat in our lives, we begin to find our purpose and a life of grace and ease. What I am working on is expanding, never fitting back into the ego box….living a life without fear. In the world of 2021, fear is all the government, media and social media want us to focus on. They want to control us by controlling our ego….the easiest way to do that is make us live a life of fear. I have found the best way for me to find my purpose, live my life of grace and ease and put higher self in the drivers seat is to not get sucked into the fear state. The easiest way to avoid fear is turn off the media, spend time alone and by putting my focus on loving myself and putting myself first….unconditionally love myself! (I think I found the next focus of my story and so you can read it to understand how this works at defeating fear.)

So to sum it all up, ego isn’t real….it is an external, fearful way that we look at ourselves. Ego is control with use of fear and self doubt. When two egos get into a room together, they often boost each other….leaving both people drained and in a higher state of fear. When we choose (it is always a choice) to give our higher selves the control, we live in peace and joy as a collective whole….meaning when 2 higher selves are in a room together they boost each other…..leaving both people filled with joy and in a state of unconditional love. Which seems like a better path forward? I simply choose higher self and am leaving ego behind….no more fear only peace by means of unconditional love!
